♫...Listen to my heart, can you hear it sing...♫

Day 35 – Your favorite movie and what it’s about.

"A story about a time, a story about a place, a story about the people. But above all these things, a story about love. A love that will live forever."

Moulin Rouge is an epic and beautiful love story brought into vibrant life by the incomparable Baz Luhrmann. We have two people who should never have fallen in love: a beautiful courtesan from the Moulin Rouge who is promised to a rich and powerful Duke, and an idealistic young, bohemian writer. They both realize the impossibilities of their relationship, but consequences be damned, they fall anyway.

The story, for me, is about the perseverance of real love...about not giving up on something true. I had the phrase 'Come What May' tattooed on my wrist a few years ago. The song 'Come What May' sums up perfectly the heart and soul of this movie, and it reminds me to not give up, no matter how many bad relationships I have, or how many jerks I meet.

A quote from the IMDb message board is a perfect response for the minority group of people who horribly disliked this movie: "It takes a certain kind of intelligence to understand the movie; to get the brilliance of it, understand all of the references and homages. It will go over many people's heads and they'll dismiss it."
